tBBR Adoption Application
Please keep in mind that filling out this form is a must before any adoption is considered. This is to help protect the health and well being of the babies born and raised at tBBR. Their lives are very important to me and I will do what I can to prevent them from being in any potential danger. Sometimes based on the answers provided, an adoption can and will be denied. Answer truthfully and thoroughly, if you do not know or need advice, please ask. Do not answer with “ whatever tBBR suggests.” Please give me as much information as possible. I will give any advice I feel is warranted, so please do not take offense to anything suggested or recommended. This is only to benefit the rats, my babies, as they will depend on you! If you are interested in adoption, please continue with the application and e-mail with questions. Once received, I will place you on a waiting list. Planned litters are usually found on the website or Facebook fan page. Some waiting lists are longer than others. Babies are ready for adoption between 5 and 6 weeks old, I will not let them go before this time, for any reason.
*Important note! I do not allow visitors to my Rattery. This is not a business, but a hobby in which I love. My rattery is run out of my home, they have their own room and are thoroughly spoiled. My rats are treasures!
For the safety of my rat family, as well as my human family, we do not allow visitors. Adoption meet ups are planned in advance and at a separate location. Pictures of the rats and rattery can be found on our website and Facebook page. You can always meet me and the rats I bring to RatsPacNW shows.

1. Are you over the age of 18? Yes [ ] No [ ] (if not, please be aware that a parent or guardian must sign the contract when picking up the babies):
2. Are there are children in your home? Yes [ ] No [ ]
If yes, what are their ages?: *Please supervise young children with rats*
*Will your child be the sole care taker of the rats?
3. Who are these rats for?:
4. Describe what type of rats you are looking for:
*Girls are generally more active than boys. Boys make great pets for first time pet rat owners, especially with kids as they tend to be lazy and more cuddly.
5. If none are currently available, would you like to be put on our waiting list? We generally only breed a few litters a year, sometimes more. Waiting lists can get long, sometimes babies are reserved before they are even born!
6. Do you have other rats? If not, we require tBBR babies to be adopted in same sex pairs, and there is NO exception:
*Adoption fees apply: $30/rat or $35/per dwarf rat (if available)
I adopt out babies as pets only unless to a breeder I already work with
7. What kind of cage will you provide for your new rats? (tBBR recommends and uses both Martin’s Cages and Critter Nations. Or similar powder coated wire cages with appropriate bar spacing for rats of all sizes. Powder coating is ALWAYS best! Please do not use aquariums or tubs, they do not allow for good air circulation):
8. What kind of bedding will you use?
Some bedding should be frozen for 24 hours before used in a cage in case of mites/lice. PLEASE NEVER USE CEDAR OR PINE BEDDING!
9. What will you be feeding your rats? (At tBBR we make our own dry mix based on some well known rat mixes, inquire for more information. The rats also get Harlan Tekland blocks and Oxbow Regal Rat on rotation to prevent boredom and provide everything they need. Rat Food “made for rats” at the pet stores or grocery stores, especially ones with many seeds and moldy dried corn, do not have enough nutritional value for rats and can be toxic) :
10. What kinds of accessories, toys and play time will you provide your new rats? (It is best to provide your rats with several different options to prevent boredom. Hammocks are easily made and replaced. Igloos, tubes, bird toys, cat toys, and cardboard boxes are all favorites in the rattery. Keep in mind rats CHEW!):
*Side note: tBBR makes hammocks of all sizes and generally has them for sale at local rat shows. They can be purchased at adoption as well*
11. Are you aware of pet stores and the viruses some have frequenting the rats that live there? Most viruses are airborne and can be brought home without having any contact with rats. *Viruses live outside the host rodent for up to 3 hours, inside nasal passages, hair, clothing and items purchased at the store. It is best to stay away from your home, not just your rats, for at least 3 hours after visiting any pet store. Just incase! I avoid this buy ordering bedding and food on amazon, it is also cheaper. Please ask for more information about how to avoid bringing a virus home to your new pets. PLEASE FOLLOW!!:
12. In what part of your home will your new rats live? Will they be protected from the low temperatures of winter and highs of summer?:
13. Do you have a vet in case of the unplanned emergency or general health checks? (If yes, where?): *recommendation: Allpet in Shoreline, Dr. Karen Obeji and associates, exotic veterinarians.
14. Do you have other pets? If yes, what kinds and are they a danger to the rats?:
15. Is everyone in your home aware you are interested in adopting pet rats?:
16. Do you own or rent the place you live? Do you have a pet policy?:
17. Is there anyone in your family or household that could possibly be allergic to rats? Or that IS allergic to cats, dogs or other dander?: *Some people are allergic to rats via contact with their feet/nails and urine on their feet.
18. Have you ever had to re-home an animal for any reason? If yes, please explain:
19. Do you have plans to move over the next couple of years, or leave for school in another state?
20. If for any reason you are no longer able to keep the rats, will you agree to notify us before re-homing them elsewhere? In most circumstances, I will take the rats back, without any refund of their original adoption fee (with exception of the first 2 weeks after adoption):
By returning this application, you agree that you have fully understood these questions and answered them truthfully to the best of your knowledge.
